The Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association includes high school and college hockey coaches from throughout the state. The WHCA has the following objectives: 1. To help maintain the highest possible standards of hockey in the state of Wisconsin. 2. To submit to the proper organizations, suggestions for the improvement of hockey in Wisconsin. 3. To provide Wisconsin coaches with sources of hockey information. 4. To work together for the improvement of conditions in Wisconsin hockey. 5. To establish good fellowship and social contact. 6. To maintain high educational standards when coaching the game of hockey To reach its stated objectives, the WHCA is led by a slate of Officers elected by the WHCA membership. In addition, the following Standing Committees assist in the identification and implementation of projects for the association. The committees are: · Awards Committee · Fall Clinic Planning Committee · WIAA Coaches Advisory Committee Through this structure, the WHCA will: · Honor both its post and present, through awards recognizing individuals and teams who have achieved a unique place in Wisconsin hockey. · Help shape the on-ice playing rules used by the WIAA · Encourage sportsmanship through its Code of Conduct for coaches and athletes. · Share information on coaching and training strategies and methods. · Assist in the promotion of high school hockey in the state of Wisconsin. · Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on hockey, through clinics for coaches and through the annual WHCA meeting in the spring. How does the WHCA honor Wisconsin High School Hockey? · The WHCA All-State Teams · The American Family Insurance Player of the Year Award · The WHCA Team Sportsmanship Award · The Hobey Baker Character Awards · The Bob Johnson Coach of the Year Award · The George Baumann Friends of Hockey Award · The WHCA Sectional and State Academic Champion Awards · The WHCA Coaches Hall of Fame · The WHCA Assistant Coaches of the Year Award 2007—2008 WHCA Goals · Increased number of games allowed (23) through holiday tournament proposal · 100% Membership in WHCA by all boys & girls WIAA hockey coaches · Create WHCA Hall of Fame display in Eagle River · Implement specific changes to improve the Wisconsin state high school hockey tournament · Educate coaches and players in order to achieve less than 25 player ejections (JV and Varsity) during the 2007-08 season · Create a two day fall clinic with increased education, vendors, and opportunities to learn from other coaches · Develop and implement Assistant Coach of the Year sectional and state-wide awards Tony Renlund, President WHCA |
